All is Well

Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other, that we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Pray, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner.

Saroj Khanna was an academician who unostentatiously devoted herself to Lady Shriram College and her family, moved to eternity before she could see her off-springs bloom.

A tribute from Justice Dev Raj Khanna - her youngest grandson

Shrimati Khushal Devi lived to be over a hundred years old.
She passed away on 25th October in 1958.
Tremendous patience, selflessness, humble, and with amazing love and devotion towards this family - such was our indefatigable mother.
Her role in building and holding together our family can never be forgotten or underrated. We would like our newer generations, who did not have the honour or pleasure of coming in contact with her, to learn about her
and realise the debt of gratitude that this family owes her.

" Never in the field of Human Conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."

Winston Churchill when talking about the RAF

JUSTICE DEV RAJ KHANNA

TRIBUTE TO MY GRAND FATHER – JUSTICE D.R. KHANNA

This is for my great, lovable dadaji who left us with tears and sorrow on 28-4-2004 .
Dadaji you lived your life of 80 yrs and 16 yrs of your life you gave me all you had.
You loved me and made sure that mom and dad were never harsh.
Your motivation and healthy spirits have blessed me.
I still remember 27- 4 night, the last night you had with us when you and me and Udai were laughing seeing people eating worms on TV.
We will always miss you, love you and will always think of you in good and bad times.
I still remember before every exam you told me “If you don’t remember anything take a deep breath think of dadimaa and you will remember everything”.
Dadaji your small tricks have worked and your blessings will make our lives successful.
You have always appreciated my work which became my passion, all because of your motivation.
I am sorry I couldn’t help you in your end moments. I will always regret this my whole life.
I am sure that where ever you are now things around you will be happy and pleasant.
You will be able to judge everything well.
May be God wanted you more than us, that’s why you are not here with us.
I will always miss you and love you.

Parul.

DEV RAJ KHANNA
(17.10.1917 to 28.4.2005)

Born on 17th October, 1917 as the youngest of nine siblings he grew up without mother’s love & pampering, having lost her at six months of age. Maaji, his maternal grand mother filled in the void and cared for him.
‘Papa’ had a turbulent early life with accidents, operations and illness, yet these problems and ailments only strengthened his indomitable will power and spirit. He involved himself in sport, adventure, travel with untiring enthusiasm.

A completely self made person, he found a life partner in Saroj, whom he married on 24th December 1958. They had two sons Sanjiv and Mahim who they brought up with utmost love and affection, making great personal sacrifices to always provide the very best to them. Their marriages to Asha and Rupali respectively, were occasions of much happiness, having shouldered the responsibility single-handedly.
Later in life, some of his most cherished moments were the ones he spent with his grand-children Parul, Udai, Himani & Yashwin. He had a vision for each one of them achieving great heights in their chosen fields.
This he always conveyed to us with utmost conviction.

He was very fond of his sisters and proud of his elder bother’s achievements. As a young man he introduced his nieces & nephews to cricket, kite flying, hiking and other games.
Nurturing a great interest in photography, one of his prized possessions was a box camera, which he bought when he was still in school.

He completed his LL.B degree in Shimla after his law degree in Lahore was disrupted due the partition.
He got through the extremely tough PCS exam securing a very high rank to become a judge soon after completing law studies. Unfortunately, he was declared medically unfit due to childhood pleurisy. It took three tough years to be re-instated back and he finally retired as Judge of Delhi High Court after years of exemplary service.
His utmost integrity, quick grasp of facts and unbiased prompt judgements made him very popular with the legal fraternity.
Even 15 years after his retirement from judge-ship he was still being asked to act as an arbitrator.
He had his final arbitration session only a few hours before untimely demise.

He was a man of strong views & convictions with ability to express these fearlessly.
Behind his seemly stiff exterior, he was an extremely humble, simple and a loving person who treated
every one equally like regardless of their status.
He was greatly admired and loved by his court staff who continued to visit him long after his retirement.

Dalhousie, its level walks, greenery and Ganga Niwas were always a source of peace and tranquillity to him.
During his regular bi-annually visits, he would remember Bauji with gratitude for leaving his family with such a “sanctuary”.

A true Karam Yogi, who lived his life to the fullest without being burden on anyone,
giving more than what he got in return.
His courage, honestly, will power, determination to meet challenges and exemplary hard-work
will always remain in our minds and thoughts to guide direct us to our own humble destines.

He is most deeply missed by his family, having left an unfathomable void.
Dearly remembered by his grand children, with whom he had a special relationship.
His ideals, thoughts and deeds will always remain our guiding spirit and inspiration.

Sanjiv and Asha, Mahim and Rupali,
Parul, Udai, Himani Yashwin;
